Shazia Iftkhar

Shazia Iftkhar’s research and teaching interests lie in the areas of race/ethnicity, gender and religion in relation to citizenship and nation as well as in questions of communication, identity and the public sphere. Current research critically examines national debate around the Muslim headscarf in France, examining political narrative on French identity and secularism in news coverage and ethnographic data. Fields of study: media and race, gender and religion; communication, culture, identity and citizenship; representations of minorities; media and transnational/global cultural flows; postcoloniality, migration and diaspora.
